Chapter 6
When I was 17, I once read the love letter that Wayne wrote to me.
I waited for a year, but he didn’t come to confess his feelings for me.
I used to think it was because he was too shy and afraid that I didn’t like him.
Our interaction became less and less. On the day of graduation, I took the initiative and expressed my feelings for Wayne.
To my surprise, Wayne not only rejected me but also applied to a completely different college from mine.
He made his attitude clear. No matter how I asked and begged him to tell me the reason, he remained silent
Back then, I didn’t know the reason, but Wayne’s abrupt attitude change deeply hurt me.
During my college years, I had many suitors, but I never accepted anyone’s pursuit.
After 1 graduated from college, I started my own business alone and eventually had my own publicly listed company.
Two memories intertwined in my mind until the warmth on my shoulders abruptly pulled me back from the reminiscence
I came to my senses. The person beside me asked me softly, “Ms. Burnett, are you okay? Did you have a hypoglycemic episode?”
She spoke while taking out a piece of candy from her pocket and putting it into my hand.
When 1 heard the title “Ms Burnett“, my heart suddenly trembled.
All this was true. Everything had changed
“Ms. Burnett, how are you feeling? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?”
I shook my head quickly. “No need I’m fine. Thank you for the candy.
Clerra Leon, my assistant, quickly waved her hand, “You are my boss. That’s what I should do.”
Then, she handed me an invitation. “This is an invitation from the organizer of the industry exchange meeting this afternoon.”
I nodded slightly and reached out to take it
“Ms. Burnett, If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave first.” Cierra slightly bowed to me, then opened the door, and left the office.
I opened the invitation, and it stated, “Invitation to Allison Burnett, the president of Barnett’s Jewelry
I was somewhat absent–minded. Before I married Wayne, my dream was to open my own jewelry company.
Unfortunately, I got pregnant unexpectedly at that time.
Well, it was all in the past. There was no need to keep dwelling on it.
Mt 2 o’clock in the afternoon, I attended the exchange meeting on time.
Ciema had already been sitting in her seat, waiting for me. When she saw me, she waved at me with a smile on her face.
I smiled back and finally sat down beside her.
After the exchange meeting started, 1 unexpectedly saw two familiar faces.
Carina hosted the meeting on stage
When Wayne took the stage to deliver his speech, Carina’s eyes remained glued to Wayne,
Wayne also smiled in response to her.
I sat in the audience, gazing intently at them.
Cierra sighed and said, “I heard that this host was specially recruited by Mr. Reid for the Reid’s Jewelry. She must be a very talented designer.”
Ismiled slightly and didn’t answer.
The girl next to Clerra clicked her tongue a few times and said, “I don’t think so. It’s said they are in a romantic relationship, and that’s why Mr. Reid…”
I wasn’t very surprised when I heard that Wayne and Carina were in love.
After all, the 18–year–old Wayne did not choose me, so it was unsurprising that he was with Carina when he turned 30.
Wayne was relaxed on the stage, with smooth and elegant movements. Suddenly, in a moment, our gaze met, and his voice trembled imperceptibly.
I slightly furrowed my eyebrows but quickly returned to normal.
As expected, Wayne’s speech received a round of applause.
I clapped along with the crowd.
Wayne and Carlina retreated backstage
And my position happened to allow me to see their interaction behind the stage
I saw Wayne thoughtfully unscrew the cap of a water bottle and hand it to Carina. Carina looked at him and smiled sweetly.
I quietly averted my gaze and redirected my attention back to the stage.
After the exchange meeting ended, Cierra and I left together.
We chose an exit with fewer people just as we stepped out of the meeting room, someone grabbed my arm.
I turned around and happened to meet Wayne’s restrained gaze.
“Can we talk?
