Chapter 14
That night, Noel drowned his sorrows with alcohol. He did not stop drinking even after
throwing up.
Sophie cried until her eyes were red and was still trying to talk him out of it with a hoarse
voice.
“Please stop drinking, Noel. You’ll end up in the hospital if you continue this way. Please don’t hurt yourself over a woman who only wants to climb the social ladder and doesn’t know what’s good for her.”
Noel’s cloudy eyes seemed to clear up when he heard Sophie’s words.
He grabbed Sophie by the collar and spoke in a slightly drunken stupor.
“She doesn’t know what’s good for her and just wants to climb the social ladder? S–she married my Uncle Eric because s–she wants to make me mad! I’ve known her for years. H–how could I not know what she’s thinking? All she wants is for me to comfort her. I’ll go see her right now. I–I just need to beckon her, and she’ll come back to me!”
Noel pushed away bottles of alcohol as he spoke and stumbled toward the door.
Sophie bit down on her lips and followed behind unhappily.
Noel dialed the door code after the cab driver stopped them at South Bay Villa and barged through the door.
It was a silent night, and his incessant knocking woke everyone up.
Eric woke up from the noise and opened the door. His expression turned cold when he saw Noel in his drunken state.
“Take him away to wake him up.”
The housekeeper quickly led Noel to the bathroom under Eric’s orders.”
Sophie was left standing alone in the corridor.
Her head was buried close to her chest, and she sounded like she was almost crying.
“H–hello, Mr. Chilton.”
Eric glanced at her. He was about to ask what happened when he heard footsteps behind him.
“What’s with all the noise?”
Stella appeared, rubbing her eyes. The coldness in Eric’s eyes melted slightly as he turned

back to hold Stella by the waist.
“It’s nothing. Go back and rest. I’ll take care of it soon.”

Sophie lifted her head when she heard Stella’s familiar voice. She had listened to Noel talking about her the entire night, but here she was, hiding in another man’s arms while being taken care of tenderly.
Her carefully laid out plans had failed, and the person she hated the most still ended up living a life she was envious of.
Sophie was filled with hate at the thought. She wanted to stir up trouble.
“Miss Judd, Mr. Noel has been upset for the entire night since he found out you got married today. You shouldn’t hurt him this way and use Mr. Chilton as payback no matter how angry you are at Mr. Noel. He already promised to marry you. How can you go back on your word?”
It had only been a few days since Stella last saw Sophie, yet her ability to create discord had improved tremendously.
Stella raised an eyebrow. She was about to say something when Eric’s deep voice spoke first.
“You have a sharp tongue. I’d like to ask my sister–in–law tomorrow for some advice on how to
train such a smart maid.”
A chill ran through Sophie when she heard the words ‘sister–in–law‘.
Noel’s parents had never liked her and had tried several times to fire her entire family, but Noel always managed to stop them.
If Eric went to them to make a complaint, even the president would not be able to save her family.
She started to make excuses in a fluster, stammering.
“Wait, Mr. Chilton. I’m telling the truth. Miss Judd has always wanted to marry Mr. Noel. All of Jefferton knows that…”
Before she could finish, Stella slapped Sophie twice.
She slapped Sophie.so hard that all Sophie could see were stars. Both her cheeks swelled up.
They looked like two red peaches.
