Chapter 18
The security camera caught everything clearly.
After the police cleared the scene and took down everyone’s statements, they took away the
bodies and wanted to bring Sophie back to the police station.
However, Noel hugged her tight and refused to let go.
Sophie laid in his arms. Her eyes were glazed over as she had just suffered a breakdown.
Noel’s heart ached for her. He wanted to talk to the police to wait until her emotions
stabilized.
However, Eric stopped him.
He gave the police a copy of the security footage and calmly made a request.
“Officer Colton, this is a copy of security footage that clearly captured how Sophie Taylor tried to murder my wife. I’d like the police to investigate this.”
Sophie, who was supposed to be out of it, suddenly snapped awake when she heard Eric’s
words. She went out of control as she screamed.
“It wasn’t me! That was just an accident! The police have already confirmed it!
“Noel signed the settlement for me! You can’t look into this anymore!”
Sophie got agitated as she tried to refute this. Even Noel wanted to try to clear her name.
However, Eric did not give him the chance.
“Officer Colton, my wife and the man who signed the settlement are aunt and nephew. That settlement document in the police station cannot be upheld by the law. Moreover, my wife is the one who wants this investigated. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.”
The look on Office Colton’s face turned grim. He took the evidence from Eric seriously. He was also about to take Sophie away with them.
Noel wanted to stop the police, but Eric spoke up to stop him.
“You will no longer be a Chilton if you step out of this door. The Chiltons will not accept criminals who aid and abet murderers.
“Also, you were present that day, and your name is signed on the settlement document. You’ll be called into the police station soon. I hope you’ll tell them everything truthfully. We’ll leave it to the police and the courts to decide if you’re really innocent or an accomplice.”

Noel turned pale, and he no longer dared to say a word.
Sophie’s last hope was crushed when Noel did nothing.
She struggled out of the police’s grip with all her might to lunge at Noel and give him a hard slap. Her voice was filled with despair.
“Noel Chilton! I didn’t expect you to be a weak, useless, and hard–hearted man! I was wrong about you. No wonder Stella Judd doesn’t like you. You deserve to be dumped by her and used by me. Hahaha!
“I’ve never liked you! I sweet–talked you into transferring money to me and showering me with presents. That’s all you’re good for. Besides having money and that good–looking face, you’re practically useless! If I had another chance, I would rather marry the gardener than look at
you!”
The hesitation and look of pity in Noel’s eyes disappeared. They turned cold with every word Sophie uttered.
It was the first time he realized that the woman he liked and protected for years was nothing
but a common gold digger.
He pushed Sophie away and yelled at her with suppressed anger and pain.
“Get out!”
The police dragged the struggling woman out of the old Chilton Mansion.
When the doors closed, Noel felt every ounce of energy pulled out of his body.
He turned around in despair and met with a familiar pair of eyes.
They belonged to Stella.
He felt even more depressed at the sight of her. He opened his mouth to call out to her.
“Stella…”
She ignored him.
Stella reached out to Eric with her hand and spoke softly and tenderly.
“It’s all over for now. It’s time for you to chat with my parents.”
“You’re right. They must be tired of waiting.”
The spark in Noel’s eyes gradually dimmed as he watched them walk away while leaning against each other.

He felt a pang of pain in his heart. It hurt so much that tears welled in his eyes.
Noel felt something leaving his body and floating away.
He knew he could no longer get it back.
