Chapter 24
After Noel’s death, Eric would take the children to the old mansion every week to accompany Old Mr Chilton.
Everyone knew never to mention his name again.
As for the girls, all they knew was that Noel had gone somewhere far away and had no idea when he would be back.
Every time Eric brought home cake, they would keep a piece in the fridge.
Time washed away the sadness at home.
As the girls grew older, they got even more playful. The house would be a mess if one did not pay attention to them.
Stella woke up from her afternoon nap and saw them hiding in a corner sneakily. They were flipping through something.
She was about to give them a scare when they ran over to her while waving pieces of paper in
the air.
“Mommy, who’s Star?”
Stella was taken aback. She realized the paper in their hands looked familiar.
Those were the love letters Eric had hidden.
She had tried looking for them in the bedroom for the past seven years they were married but to no avail. In the end, it was the children that found them.
Stella had no idea how to react to that.
She put away the letters in a box and talked to the girls about them.
When Eric returned home, the girls ran excitedly to him and surrounded him.
“Daddy! Who is Star? Why did you write her so many letters?”
Eric’s eye twitched when he saw the letters in their hands. He was about to take it from them when he heard Stella’s cough.
She was leaning against the railing on the second floor with a big smile on her face. She looked like a cunning fox.
Eric could tell by her expression that she had read the letters.

He felt relieved to know that the secret he had kept hidden for years had now been revealed.
The nanny led the children outside to play while he took the letters and went to Stella. Before he said anything, Stella clarified the situation.
“Your precious daughters were the ones who found them. It had nothing to do with me.”
Eric pulled her into his arms and sniffed her hair. He laughed softly.
“How can you say it has nothing to do with you when those letters were supposed to be for my Star?”
Stella finally heard the truth after putting up a pretense for so long. She raised her hand and pinched his ear.
“Be honest. When was this? Why didn’t you tell me about them when we first got married?”
Eric would forever surrender to her.
“I wrote those letters when you were seventeen. I’ve liked you since I was thirteen. Do you remember the year we caught the flu and my parents were busy working? They asked your mother for help to take care of me, and we ended up staying in the same suite in the hospital. You got well before me and would bring me medicine and candy every day even though you were afraid of me. You didn’t even dare talk to me. When I fell asleep, you didn’t dare wake me up and ended up sitting by my bed for an hour. The medicine had gone cold, and you fell asleep. When I woke you up, the first thing you did was take away the bowl of medicine. You told me that cold medicine doesn’t taste good, so you ran off to get someone to heat it for me.
“My siblings were much older than me, and I have a distant personality. Those close to my age were a generation younger than I was and all of them were afraid of me, which was why I’ve always been alone. You were the only one who would greet me every time you saw me. Whenever there was a celebration, you would bring Noel gifts and get him to bring me my present. Even though you did it because you were kind and polite, I couldn’t forget about it. I’ve never forgotten what you did for me. All I knew was that I was not the one you liked. Moreover, I was much older than you, which was why I kept this hidden. Fortunately, I finally have the chance to tell you about it.”
Stella could no longer remember the time Eric was talking about.
However, she could not help tearing up when she saw how bright his eyes were when he talked about the past.
While she was trying to survive day by day, she was a star in someone else’s eyes that lit up
his life.
Stella wiped her tears on his clothes and choked back a sob when she spoke.

“Were you the Santa Claus who placed a present on my room balcony every Christmas?”
“That was me.”
“When I was eighteen, was that dress your present for me? Did you give it to me by disguising it as one of Noel’s presents?”
“How did you know?”
“Were you so happy you lost your mind on the day I wanted to marry you?”
“I just went crazy…”
