Chapter 9
Stella reacted happily in front of both families.
“We’re a family from now onward.”
Her words were a heavy weight on Noel’s heart.
Noel clenched his fists hard and stared at the person in front of him.
Stella could tell that he was angry and upset, but she did not care.
She hugged Eric’s arm and asked him about the next item on the itinerary with a smile.
Eric looked at the time. When he looked up at her, his usually cold and distant eyes looked gentle.
“I was late because the flight was delayed. I’m sorry to keep you waiting for me so long. You must be exhausted now. Let’s go back
to the old mansion and rest first. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to have dinner with the elders. Is that alright?”
The Chilton elders laughed and teased them when they heard this.
“Wow, getting married has changed you. You really know how to dote on your wife.”
“You’ve always been such an uptight person, Eric. I didn’t know you could speak so sweetly to anyone.”
Old Mr. Chilton looked extremely happy because his youngest son was now married and all his family members were gathered
under one roof. He waved his hand and spoke heartily.
“We don’t need you to have dinner with us as long as the both of you live a happy married life. Stella must be tired from waking up so early to get ready. None of you are allowed to disturb the happy couple from now onward. Let’s all go home!”
Eric held Stella’s hand and left amidst the teasing.
Noel watched as they walked further and further away. His knuckles cracked loudly from clenching too hard.
His suppressed rage and pain were unleashed once everyone left.
“What’s going on?! Aren’t I supposed to be the one marrying Stella in the Chilton and Judd marriage alliance?”
Noel’s parents were basking in the happiness when he roared angrily. They jumped with shock and stared unhappily at their son.
“What are you so mad about? When the Judds visited us half a month ago, Stella and her parents asked for her to be married to your Uncle Eric. They never mentioned your name. Why would you think you’re the one getting married?”
“If I’m not the groom, why did you get me to pick her up?”
Sophie and his buddies arrived late and entered the hall. They were stunned to hear those words.
When Noel’s parents saw a group of people suddenly barging in with Sophie, they realized the reason for Noel’s absence. Their

“Your Uncle Eric’s flight was delayed this morning during his flight transfer, which is why we got your help to pick the bride up
on his behalf. How could you run off halfway and hang out with your no–good friends?! We can’t believe you.
“Stella will be your aunt from now onward. Behave yourself and don’t do anything that crosses the line. No one can help you if
you anger your Uncle Eric.”
Noel’s face gradually turned pale as his parents lectured him.
It never occurred to him that Stella would one day become his aunt.
His shoulders trembled uncontrollably, and he closed his eyes with dejection.
He began to remember all the times he jeered at Stella.
The memory of Stella being completely drenched at the bar while still trying to clarify the situation, the ring she designed that he
had tried so hard to put on because it was smaller than he expected, the nervousness she felt when she heard Eric’s name during
the family dinner…
That was when Noel finally understood everything.
It was all true. Stella had never lied to him.
He was the one too immersed in the past when Stella used to chase him with a passion. He was so full of himself that he failed to
notice the change in her.
Stella was no longer the person she was since the day of her engagement.
How did she change overnight when she was the one making a fuss about wanting him to be her groom just the day before?
Maybe she did not change. All she did was change her attitude.
Did she decide to give up on him because he had hurt her in the past?
Could it be part of her scheme of playing hard to get by marrying his Uncle Eric?
Numerous possibilities appeared in Noel’s mind. He felt like his mind was about to explode as he kept pulling at his hair.
Sophie looked at him with a pained expression when she saw him this way. She hugged him.
Noel’s parents saw them just as they were about to leave, and they looked extremely upset.
How dare a maid’s daughter even think about marrying into the Chiltons!
