Chapter 28
“And Mr. Macy, when your business failed, my dad loaned you money to buy into the Keller Group because you were classmates. But have you even visited him during his coma?”
Harlan and Carls’s expressions turned slightly grim at Travis’s words.
They did owe their success to Stephen.
But business was all about survival of the fittest.
So, Harlan retorted confidently, “Travis, I admit it was your dad who helped us get where we are, but over the years, we’ve repaid our debt to the Keller family.
“Besides, business isn’t about sentiment. Even if we support you as CEO, do you think it’ll turn things around?”
Travis’s handsome face instantly darkened.
He regretted not listening to his dad and learning company management, instead diving headfirst into acting.
Now that the Keller family’s in trouble, as the only son, all he could do was to watch the company decline.
Harlan then turned to the other shareholders, egging them on. “Everyone! You’ve seen what’s been happening at the Keller Group this past month.
“The company’s broke, deep in debt. It’s not about loyalty anymore.
“If we don’t find new investors and managers soon, the Keller Group will be totally bankrupt within half a year. You wanna end up broke too?”
Harlan went from being Stephen’s bodyguard to the Keller Group shareholder to where he was now over 20 years.
The ins and outs of the business world’s backstabbing were nothing new to him.
He was also well–versed in sowing discord among people.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished, the shareholders started whispering among themselves, “If things keep going like this at Keller Group, it’s doomed.”
“Then our shares will all go down the drain.”
Travis’s already grim face grew even darker. He never expected that despite his father helping and promoting so many present, not a single one stood by
him at that moment.
What a vivid depiction of the farmer and the viper!
Just as Travis was about to completely cut ties with these people, a well–preserved, elegantly poised woman in her early forties, seated in the farthest corner, stood up.
“I’ve often heard that to test a person’s character, all it takes is one fall from grace. Today, Mr. Ruell and Mr. Macy have truly shown me what real humanity is all about,” she said.
Harlan’s face changed instantly at her words. “Lynette, we are considering the interests of the Keller Group and taking into account the shareholders present here.”
Lynette Hanks sneered, “It’s true that Keller Group is in crisis, but one shouldn’t forget their roots. If it weren’t for Mr. Stephen Keller back then, there wouldn’t be any of you today. Kicking someone when they’re down is just wrong!”
Then she scanned the other shareholders. “If you really care about the Keller Group, you should all unite to help it through this crisis, instead of just thinking about maximizing profits.”

Chapter 28
Harlan’s face turned completely dark, and in a fit of frustration, he blurted out, “Lynette, don’t think we don’t know about your affair with Stephen. Il k weren’t for hooking up with him, would you be where you are today?”
As soon as he finished, the entire place erupted in an uproar.
Lynette’s face turned ashen in an instant.
At that moment, the door of the boardroom was pushed open from outside, and a cool yet pleasant voice sounded. “Mr. Ruell, to make my brother step down, you went so far as to slander others. Could it be that you’ve had designs on my dad’s company all along?”
