Chapter 32
Arya’s voice was steady and firm as she spoke, each word clear and deliberate, unhurried but Evelyn’s heart.
powerful. It was like every syllable cut straight through
Evelyn never expected Arya to be so sure she was lying. Although she was lying, she absolutely would not admit it.
After all, there were no witnesses back then to prove she wasn’t Finn’s..
- be.
Besides, fate had led her to find that pendant; it must have been meant to
With that thought, Evelyn’s eyes glistened with tears as she looked up pitifully. “I’m not lying. I really am the one who saved Mr. Barnett back then.”
Evelyn had endured countless hardships in the countryside growing up..
When she finally returned to the White family in the city, Evelyn had long learned how to wear a mask and play the role of the delicate, gentle girl.
Evelyn always knew the right moments to soften her stance and show vulnerability. It had never failed her–not even once.
Even Evelyn’s brothers, who initially favored the fake daughter, eventually fell under her control.
So, pretending to be Finn’s savior? That was just another performance, and Evelyn was sure it would work flawlessly.
Arya didn’t feel the need to waste any more time with someone like Evelyn. She was just about to reveal her own identity as Finn’s real savior when a
cold, unyielding voice cut through the air. “You are not the Ava I’ve been looking for!”
Arya turned her head in surprise, only to see Finn standing tall and imposing, his eyes sharp and icy as he stared Evelyn down, like a hawk spotting its prey. “Leave the pendant here. And get out.”
Arya raised her eyebrows, a bit astonished. She hadn’t expected Finn to be so sharp at spotting a fake.
But Arya couldn’t help but wonder–how did he know Evelyn was lying? Was it just instinct? Or was there something more?
Arya clearly remembered that back when she rescued eighteen–year–old Finn, he had been severely injured, completely blind, and their conversations were brief. So how could he be so certain Evelyn wasn’t the one who saved him?
But whatever the reason, it didn’t matter to Arya. What mattered was that Finn had seen right through Evelyn’s act.
Evelyn flinched under Finn’s icy glare, but she quickly switched to her classic pitiful expression.
Then Evelyn said, her wide eyes filled with tears, “Mr. Barnett, I swear
I’m the one
who saved you… Please, you have to believe me…”
Evelyn’s delicate features and teary eyes always made her look cent and fragile.
For most men, that pitiful gaze was enough to melt their hearts. So Evelyn was confident it would work on Finn too.
But Finn merely cast her a cold, indifferent glance. “The Ava I’m looking for is a strong, fearless girl. She would never cry and beg for sympathy.”
Even though Finn had been gravely injured and blind at the time, he could still feel the strength and unyielding spirit radiating from that little girl.
It was a unique blend of sweetness, boldness, and/courage. In fact, Finn had only ever felt that same energy from Arya.
As the memory surfaced, Finn couldn’t help but turn his gaze toward Arya.
At that exact moment, their eyes met–hers sparkling and clear, holding that familiar spark.
Finn’s heartbeat sped up, his breathing grew unsteady. He felt like he was losing control all over again.
Ever since the first time he met Arya, Finn had been finding it harder and harder to control his own heart.

Chapter 32
Meanwhile, Evelyn scrambled for another excuse. “Mr. Barnett, it’s just that… when I returned to the White family at sixteen, I was scared. I was afraid they wouldn’t accept me. That’s why I’m like this now.”
“Why you are the way you are is none of my concern.” Finn’s voice dropped to an icy chill, his dark eyes growing even colder.
His lips curled into a scornful line. “I’m only going to say this one more time. Leave the pendant, and get out.”
The steel in Finn’s gaze made Evelyn shudder. The intensity in his eyes stripped away any remaining courage she had.
Without another word, Evelyn’s eyes reddened as she placed the pendant on the table, covering her face as she fled the room.
But deep down, Evelyn wasn’t ready to give up. One day, she would find a way to prove she was Finn’s savior. She was sure of it.
Robert, who had been standing nearby, started to sweat nervously.
Robert thought, ‘After all, I’m the one who found Evelyn. Now that Mr. Barnett is clearly angry, will he be the one to take the fall?‘
For a moment, Robert felt like the very air in the room had grown colder, the pressure heavy and suffocating.
Just as Robert braced himself for the storm to come, Finn’s voice cut through the silence, sharp and unyielding. “Find out how that pendant ended up in that woman’s hands. Now.”
Finn distinctly remembered giving that pendant to the little girl with his own hands. Had she lost it somehow?
“Yes, Mr. Barnett. I’ll get on it right away!” Robert exhaled with relief and hurriedly led the bodyguards out of the room, not daring to linger even a second
longer.
Suddenly, the spacious and luxurious room felt even more hollow and cold.
The air was heavy, almost suffocatingly thick with Finn’s icy aura.
‘Is he feeling this way because he’s disappointed he hasn’t found the girl from his memories?‘ Ayra thought.
“Sorry you had to see that.” Finn finally spoke, his voice deep and distant, his eyes turning to Arya.
Finn’s tone was frosty, almost indifferent. But Arya could still sense his disappointment.
Arya studied the sharp lines of his jaw, his expression unreadable. “Why are you so determined to find the girl who saved you?” she asked plainly.
Finn’s gaze darkened, his eyes deepening with something she couldn’t quite place. He didn’t really understand himself himself–why he have to find her?
Maybe it was because her sweet voice had been etched into his memory, a gentle whisper that lingered even after all these years.
Or maybe it was because, at the brink of death, she had been the only light in his world.
That memory had grown into an obsession, a fixation that carried him through dark days. And it still did. He had to find her.
Seeing Finn remain silent, Arya pressed, “What if one day you find out that the girl you’ve been looking for isn’t who you thought she was? Would you still hold on to that obsession?”
“No matter what she becomes.” Finn turned to look directly at her, his gaze unwavering, voice steady and resolute. “I’m going to find her.”
