Chapter 10
He paused again as if he was waiting for Dax to answer or move but he’d been unable to even move his eyes. “Why Dax?” He reached up and shook Dax’s arm. “TELL ME!” Alpha energy rolled off of him but even that couldn’t force Dax’s muscles to respond.
All he could do was scream silently inside his head. He remembered wanting so badly to cry as his heart split.
Bea leaned in closer to him, moving him from the memory. “Hmmm.” The noise she made in aggravation was a soft, yet cute exhale of breath and he chided himself.

“She is NOT cute.” He’d become accustomed to talking with himself. Looking around the room and commenting on anything he could find that was different and then conversing with himself about it. It was the only thing keeping him from going completely insane. That and the memories he replayed, like plays, inside his head.
“If you’re in there, blink twice.”
Still hovering over him, she took a breath and blew it into his face, forcing him to close his eyes. When he did, her lips curved up into a large smile.
Heart in his throat he blinked twice. “Yes! I’m here. I’m HERE!”

She then stood back and made a high–pitched squeal before clapping and staring up at the ceiling, thanking the Goddess.
Then, she looked back down at him, and her bright eyes turned sad and the grin that he was finding annoyingly more and more attractive, turned down into a frown.
“If you’re still functioning then that means…” She didn’t finish, she just went quiet and sat back down in the chair beside his bed.
He could no longer see her as clearly, just a colorful blur to his right, but he could hear her as she sniffled.
“Then that means, you’ve been stuck in there since the accident.” are you crying?” He tried asking.
She
sniffled again. By the sound of her voice, he could tell she was crying. “Woman, why
Anxiety gripped him. What was making her cry? Did she think I meant to oust her the first chance I got? I might… but must she cry? His thoughts were in turmoil. He wanted so badly to be treated like a human again, but he didn’t want an unknown slave touching him.
“Stuck and alone. I can imagine how that must have felt.” Standing, she drew closer to him again. He could make out the deep grooves to the left half of her melted face. She pushed hair behind his ear. “Well, I promise that from now on, you won’t be lonely like that again.”
And then she was moving around the room looking for something and mumbling to herself.
You’re damn right I was stuck and alone. Watching every

David showed his true face and the rest of my staff turned a blind eye.
Memories flooded his mind of the Steward forcing his jaw open to shove food into his mouth, or cruelly pulling on his skin and asking him if he wanted him to stop. More and more the terrible thoughts poured in until he felt a brush pull through his hair.
Ecstasy exploded across his scalp as the girl drug a hard–toothed brush across his head and through his long hair. It had grown past his shoulders at this point and hung in dark locks
She lifted his head and pulled the rest of the hair out from behind him before she continued brushing.
“Master, I can’t believe-” She stopped talking and with the tears still streaking down her face, she gasped and looked at him in shock.
“If you’re still in there…” She wiped at her tears and sniffled again before pulling further away from him. “Then you know I’m not Savonnuh.”
He couldn’t stop the inner grin that spread across his metaphorical face.
